MISSISSIPPI BLUES, by William Brown Arr. Clive Carroll

Overview
This is a fingerstyle guitar classic in standard tuning. The film includes a detailed breakdown of “Mississippi Blues”, with various technique exercises focusing on the all-important groove and voice separation between the thumb and fingers of the picking hand. This session also includes an extended section on improvisation for solo finger style guitar.

Overview
This film opens with a breakdown of the intro from my 2009 album, “Life in Colour”, and two of my 'standard' variations on the “Mississippi Blues” theme. The first variation focuses on triple stops and three-string bends to mimic the ‘pedal steel guitar’ sound, while the second variation incorporates some solo blues lines over the steady bass groove.

LORD OF ALL HOPEFULNESS (“BE THOU MY VISION”) - Hymn

This is a solo fingerstyle guitar arrangement in drop D tuning of the classic hymn also known as “Be Thou My Vision”. The melody originates from an Irish traditional tune called “Slane”. As well as a detailed breakdown of the piece, this session includes an extended section on improvisation for solo fingerstyle guitar. This hymn is a particular favourite of mine, that I used to play often as a duo with John Renbourn.
